Shelf is a bookmark manager that saves links you choose and uses AI to title, categorize, and tag them. This policy explains exactly what data the extension handles. The short version: your data stays on your device and in your own accounts — we operate no server and collect nothing.

What Shelf stores

• Bookmarks you save — the URL, title, category, tags, favorite status, and saved date of each link you explicitly save.
• Settings — your display preferences (such as the emoji-tag option) and the API key you enter.

All of this is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage. Bookmarks are additionally mirrored to Chrome's sync storage, which backs them up to your own Google account and syncs them across browsers where you're signed in. That sync is provided by Chrome itself; we never see it.

What Shelf sends, and to whom

When you save a bookmark, the extension sends that bookmark's URL and page title to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), an AI API service, to generate a title, category, and tags. This happens only when you save a link — never in the background, and nothing else about your browsing is sent. These requests are made with your own OpenRouter API key, which you supply in the extension's options, so the requests occur under your own OpenRouter account and are subject to OpenRouter's privacy policy.

Your API key is stored only on your device and is sent only to OpenRouter to authenticate those requests.

What Shelf does not do

• No analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind.
• No collection of browsing history — the extension reads a page's URL and title only when you click save.
• No developer server — we never receive, store, or see any of your data.
• No selling, sharing, or transferring of user data to any party, and no use of data for advertising, credit, or lending purposes.

Permissions explained

• storage — saving your bookmarks and settings on your device, with Chrome sync backup.
• tabs — reading the current tab's URL and title when you click "Save this page."
• contextMenus — the right-click "Save link / Save this page to Shelf" options.
• openrouter.ai host access — sending saved links for AI tagging as described above.

Your control

You can delete any bookmark in the extension, export or import your bookmarks as a file, clear your API key at any time in options, and remove all extension data by uninstalling the extension. Data mirrored to Chrome sync is managed through your own Google account's Chrome sync settings.
